1. Keep things in proportion

One of the first things to consider when choosing a pendant for your kitchen island is size. As a general rule, bigger is better, so feel free to opt for larger pendants, even if your island is smaller. Oversized light fixtures tend to have more impact as part of interior design and can serve as the focal point of your kitchen, especially if the rest of the space is fairly neutral.

If your kitchen island has tiered countertops, you can even try hanging the pendant lights at different heights to create a dramatic effect. Typically, pendants hang about 30-36 inches (75-90cm) above the counter surface, but you can vary this depending on the design of the fixture and the primary purpose of the light .

2. Find the right pendant for the job

Depending on the main function of your kitchen island and the types of lighting already available in your kitchen, you may need different types of lighting. If your main use for your island is food prep, you'll need task lights - lighted pendants (pointed down and ideally with an open or translucent bottom) that help illuminate the area so you can work safely.

If your kitchen island is more of a hangout and light snacking space than a vigorous snacking space, mood lighting is the best option for you. To ensure good illumination of the whole area rather than a specific spot, opt for pendant lights* that you can extend, or a multi-bulb fixture that provides an even glow and avoid metal shades that only cast light only from below.

(*While home decor often follows the rule of three, don't limit yourself to having three pendant lights above your kitchen island; two larger pendant lights, for example, might suit your individual case better than three smaller ones. !!)

3. Add style

As we mentioned earlier, there are many pendant styles to choose from for your kitchen island lighting. There are a few things to consider when choosing your light fixture design, modular kitchen in gurgaon such as other lights already seen in the room (especially in open spaces) and the materials used in the rest of the decor.
